The privacy policy below describes how the Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists Online (ACPO) collects and uses information about this website's visitors, ACPO members, and online course participants. It is governed by UK laws and policies.

 

Please read this privacy policy carefully.  By accessing or using this site and the services offered, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by all the terms of this Privacy Policy and our Terms and Conditions.

ACPO is a UK Data Processor.

Should you submit personal data to join our membership/advertise your services on this site, or book an online course, we process your information.  That makes us a Data Processor.  If you feel you have an unresolved data protection issue, you can contact the Information Commissioner's Office - https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/

 

What information is collected?
ACPO’s website collects different types of data; some are non-personally identifiable and may include referral website URLs, IP addresses of users, users’ website journey, information about the browsers used by the user, etc.  Cookies are used to collect most of this information. Cookies are small pieces of data that are sent to your browser and stored on your computer’s hard drive when you view our website. These cookies help ACPO identify you as the user. You have the choice to modify your browser to reject the cookies from this website. 

 

ACPO’s website platform is provided by Wix.com. Wix gathers data from websites hosted on its platform to provide analytics, improve services, and run its infrastructure. ACPO has no jurisdiction and accepts no liability over how Wix gathers user data or what it does with the data it gathers. ACPO also collect your personal data if you complete any forms on our website, for example, to become a member/advertise on our website or participate in an online course. This information is only kept as long as you are a member or participating in a course. If you cancel your membership, do not renew your membership, or have completed your course, ACPO deletes your details within 7 days. Your data is not shared with any third parties unless we are legally bound to do so, for example, a therapist profile listing includes mention of a proscribed terrorist organisation.

 

Why is the information collected?

The membership details ACPO collects are related to your membership, directory listing, and as confirmation of your qualifications as a therapist. Personal details supplied for any online courses, which include larger sums of money,  include your address in line with our due diligence

Third Parties

All membership and course payments are made by money transfer. Money transfers are done through a third party; data shared with them is beyond our control. We are not liable for your data during the payment process.

 

Hacking

ACPO acknowledges that hacking may unfortunately happen, as no online account is deemed 100% safe. ACPO accepts no responsibility for the malicious actions of third parties who deliberately breach website and processing security.

 

GDPR – Your right to be forgotten

Your data is deleted within 48 hours of any specific written request to immediately and urgently delete your details.

 

The right to object.

GDPR gives you the right to object to the processing of your personal data under certain circumstances. You have an absolute right to stop your data being used for direct marketing.  In other cases where the right to object applies, ACPO may be able to continue processing it if it can show a compelling reason for doing so.  You have the right to object in writing.  ACPO then has one calendar month to respond to such an objection.

 

Policy changes.

How we use the information that we collect.

If you enquire via our website, ACPO will only use your details to reply to that enquiry, which is responded to by ACPO staff. Once the enquiry is dealt with, ACPO will not use your details further unless you choose to join ACPO’s counselling directory on ACPO’s website.

 

Access and rectification of your personal information

You are entitled to view and amend any of your personal information that is advertised on ACPO’s website in line with the above points. GDPR includes the right for you to have inaccurate personal data rectified or completed if it is incomplete.  Please request rectification to ACPO in writing.
